FENWICK ISLAND LIONS CLUB—Together, WE SERVE!
The Fenwick Island Lions Club - serving Fenwick Island, Roxana, Selbyville and South Bethany. We have recently
added an evening meal to the monthly meeting schedule, in an effort to be more convenient for those who
work or are otherwise unavailable mid-day.
The Club meets on the first and third Monday of the month. We will now meet the first Monday of the
month at Harpoon Hanna’s Restaurant, on Rte. 54, at 12: pm for a luncheon meeting and the third
Monday of the month at the Peaky’s Restaurant, located at the top of the Fenwick Inn on Rte. 1-
Coastal Highway, at 6: pm for dinner meeting.
The meal and meeting provides a nice opportunity for good food and fellowship, but making a
difference in others’ lives is what the Fenwick Island Lions Club and Lionism is all about.
We are an organization of some 65 like-minded individuals—both men and women, whose mission is to make a positive
difference in our local community and have fun, at the same time!
A sampling of what we did for the past year includes:
delivered 6,096 meals and good cheer to homebound seniors through our Meals-on-Wheels program;
provided vision screening for 535 area preschool and kindergarten age children;
awarded $9,000 in scholarships to deserving Indian River High School seniors;
through our sponsorship of the Indian River High School LEO Club-a student directed service organization, we
helped oversee service projects involving 135, 9th to 12 graders;
delivered 2,734 items to local food pantries, through member contributions.
collected over 610 pairs of used eye glasses, to be provided to disadvantaged individuals in developing countries;
partnered with the Ocean View VFW and the Millsboro American Legion to bring vision screening to veterans and
their families;
working through the Pyle Center of Roxana, we provided financial support for the financially disadvantaged to
obtain eye and hearing exams, glasses and hearing aids;
collected and recycled almost 10,000 pounds of aluminum to help save our landfills and raise funds for our service
projects;
for the sixth year in a row, we sponsored and oversaw the Selbyville Halloween Parade- a cherished tradition (and
celebration) of small town Americana;
cooked and served over 375 individuals at our annual pancake & egg breakfast fundraiser;
cooked some 130 pounds of pasta, 47 gallons of marinara sauce, 88 pounds of sausage and 944 meatballs for our
spaghetti dinner fundraiser;
Undertook a complete renovation of the rest rooms/ bath house at Camp Barnes, the Delaware State Police run
camp in Frankford, DE;
we baked 69 dozen cookies and presented them to the 35 veterans and the families participating in the local
initiative “Operation Seas the Day.”
